I’m a Christian, a mom, a wife, a homeschooler, a teacher, and a writer.
I’m also a woman living with Bipolar II, striving to embrace
both the challenges and the beauty of my story.
Through my writing, I share honest reflections on faith, family, motherhood, mental health, and the messy, beautiful journey of becoming who God created me to be.
Meanderings in the Shadows is the adventure of wandering through a bipolar II brain that survived childhood trauma. That brain experienced significant damage in a near fatal car crash in its teens. This brain belongs to me, Tracy. Through dissociation to survive abuse and the traumatic brain injury much of my memory is like a jigsaw puzzle – it is in bits and pieces. Sometimes it’s sad, sometimes it’s fun. Sometimes it’s dark, sometimes it’s bright. Come and adventure with me.
This thesis began years ago when I started a novel about a woman that suffered with a mental illness. The story grew into part of a novel. Within the artist’s statement, I present a view of mental illness that I filter through my own experiences. I examine Anna’s struggles with how she thinks, acts and processes stress through a lens of bipolar II disorder. The critical paper examines the importance of dialogue and the need for it to fit the individual characters. The story of Anna, with the use of good dialogue, comes to life in the creative manuscript Shattered Glass: Finding Anna in the Brokenness.
